It was just a pleasure to see again the brand new Brabham BT62 at the Festival of Speed. A part from the different livery (last year it was red with dark blue details and blue stripes to recall the Martini livery used on their late '70s F1 cars) the green and gold beauty, celebrating Dan Gurney's 1964 Brabham BT7, you see in this video has some more differences. First of all the exhaust pipes are now hidden inside the rear diffuser and I have to say the V8 sounds a bit more high pitched compared to last year's one. The big rear wing was in a some kind of "low drag" setup and on the front bumper (on both left and right sides) the two air ducts were closed by two carbon fiber pieces, painted in gold to blend in with the bodywork. Something very interesting, that was announced only last January, is that it will be possible to convert the track-only BT62 into a road-legal car with a specific kit. Brabham is also aiming to enter the WEC GTE class in 2022. it's powered by a Ford-derived 5.4 litre V8 engine which is able to produce 700 hp at 7400 rpm and 667 Nm of torque at 6200 rpm. With a dry weight of just 972kg the BT62 has a power-to-weight ratio of 730ps per tonne and thanks to the aero package it delivers over 1200kg of downforce. The 1978 Brabham BT46 Fan Car and how it worked. The fan at the back of the car was claimed to be for the purpose of cooling the engine, but it also increased the downforce by a large percentage. This helped the car go around corners at a higher rate of speed while still stabilizing it. The car was unveiled at the 1978 Swedish Grand Prix. In qualifying, John Watson and Niki Lauda placed 2nd and 3rd behind rival Mario Andretti (driving for Louts) for the purpose of not drawing attention to the cars. At the start of the race, the two Brabham's fell behind a few places and on lap 20 Watson retired from the race due to a throttle problem, but Lauda had snuck back up into second place, battling with Andretti for the lead. Andretti made an error and let Lauda through to take the lead and eventually the win by a staggering 34.6 seconds. After complaints from other teams that the car was illegal, the FIA investigated the car but agreed that the fan was to be used to cool the engine down, thus deeming it legal. Bernie Ecclestone, team owner of Brabham at the time voluntarily took it out of the running, though, and without the fan on the car, Brabham finished third in the constructors championship behind Lotus and Ferrari. The extraordinary racing career of Sir Jack Brabham, Australia's first Formula 1 champion, is being brought to life in a major documentary film. The film titled ‘BRABHAM’ is a feature-length biopic about the legendary racing driver. Four years in the making, the film tells the story of the three-time Formula 1 world champion who won a total of 14 grand prix and was the first world champion to drive a rear-engined car that he designed and built in Australia. Brabham was the only person in F1 history to win both the drivers and constructors championships. It features archive footage of Brabham’s racing career and includes interviews with Sir Jackie Stewart and John Surtees, Grand Prix winner Sir Stirling Moss, former F1 chief Bernie Ecclestone, who owned the Brabham team from 1971- 1988 and Ron Tauranac, who co-founded the team with Brabham and designed many of the cars before selling it to Ecclestone. Fellow Australian racing star and Mark Webber also features. Brabham will have a red carpet premiere at the Brisbane International Film Festival on Sunday, October 6 and a second screening at the festival on Wednesday, October 9. But it made a profound impact and is celebrated to this day as a beacon of technical ingenuity. Most F1 fans know the basic story of Gordon Murray’s car, which won the 1978 Swedish Grand Prix in the hands of Niki Lauda on its sole racing appearance. As an answer to the ground-effect innovation of Team Lotus, a large fan attached to the rear of the Brabham created a similar effect by sucking air out from below the car, pulling it closer to the ground and sealing the underfloor with the side skirts. Jack Brabham is the only man to start up his own F1 team and win the championship in that car. It'd be like Lewis Hamilton setting up Hamilton Racing and winning another championship. Sounds insane, right? But in 1966, Jack Brabham, owner of the Brabham Team, won the championship in a car that had his own name written on it. In 1966, Jack Brabham and Goodyear won the Formula One World Championship. It was an incredible moment in history – the first time anyone had won a Formula One World Championship with his own construction. Not only that, but it was also Goodyear’s first Formula One title. Goodyear’s partnership with Brabham continued to be successful, with 26 Grand Prix wins over three decades. And as David Brabham notes in this video, tyres are probably the most important part of the car. This short video is about a 1983 Brabham BMW BT52 F1 car I saw and recorded during the 2017 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Designed by Gordon Murray it features a turbocharged BMW M12/13 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine which was able to produce around 650hp at 9,500 rpm in race trim (around 800hp during qualifying) and 450Nm of torque. (From 1991 Yamaha Motor News No.1) On December 14 of last year (1990), the Brabham Yamaha Formula One Team, which will participate in the 1991 F1 World Championships, conducted the first test-runs of its "BT59Y" F1 machine, outfitted with the 12-cylinder V-configuration Yamaha OX99 engine, at the south track of Britain's Silverstone circuit. Over four ensuing days 670km of tests were conducted and abundant data gathered. On the 14th, the Brabham Team's BT59Y, based ont he 1990 BT59 model chassis and outfitted with an OX99 engine, completed 20 laps of the circuit. On the 17th the same engine completed an additional 41 laps, after which a second engine was installed and tested over the planned distance of 500km on the 18th and 19th. During the tests detailed data was gathered concerning electric systems, oil pressure systems, etc. Mark Blundell and Martin Brundle, who drove the machine during the tests, both liked the power feel of the OX99 engine and its good low end torque. Early on in the tests there were some problems with accelerator action and traction coming out of low-speed corners. But work on settings gradually solved the problems and the machine developed very smooth acceleration. The team commented afterwards that they were very happy with the results of the test-runs. #f1 #retrof1 #f1testing

Sir John Arthur "Jack" Brabham, AO, OBE (2 April 1926 – 19 May 2014) was an Australian racing driver who was Formula One champion in 1959, 1960, and 1966. He was a founder of the Brabham racing team and race car constructor that bore his name. Brabham was a Royal Australian Air Force flight mechanic and ran a small engineering workshop before he started racing midget cars in 1948. His successes with midgets in Australian and New Zealand road racing events led to his going to the United Kingdom to further his racing career. There he became part of the Cooper Car Company's racing team, building as well as racing cars. He contributed to the design of the mid-engined cars that Cooper introduced to Formula One and the Indianapolis 500, and won the Formula One world championship in 1959 and 1960. In 1962 he established his own Brabham marque with fellow Australian Ron Tauranac, which became the largest manufacturer of customer racing cars in the world in the 1960s. In 1966 Brabham became the first – and still the only – man to win the Formula One world championship driving one of his own cars. He was the last surviving World Champion of the 1950s. Brabham are back and present to the world the new BT62 track-bred hypercar! A hugely significant name from the world of motorsport and F1, under the leadership of David Brabham the company relaunches in London with the presentation of the BT62. The Brabham BT62 packs in a 5.4l naturally aspirated V8 with 710hp (700bhp) and 667Nm of torque, while weighing just 972kg giving it a power to weight of 730. Combine those numbers with 1,200kg of downforce, slick tyres, and based around a GT car frame, you can expect some serious track performance - effectively taking away the rule book from the restrictions placed on racecars. The first car we see here is the development car that's been testing in Australia, where the cars are built in Adelaide. It's finished in a distinct green and gold livery to commemorate the 1966 France Grand Prix at Reims, where Sir Jack Brabham was victorious in a car wearing his own name in a season where even to this date he became the only man to win a championship in such a fashion. With the Anglo-Australian routes of the Brabham family, the Australian High Commission in London at Australia House was chosen as the launch venue for the BT62, surrounded by an array of significant racecars from Brabham's history. In this video you'll see the most powerful Formula 1 car ever that participated a qualification. It produced at least 1500HP at the testbank, but due to the fact that testbanks at that time were not able to measure forces above 1500HP they had to stop increasing the turbo boost. They literally pushed the BMW M12/13 1.5L engine to limit as after one qualifying sequence they had to rebuild it again. It was common that the F1 teams had two engines for one race weekend. One for the qualification and one for the race. The race engine was then limited to only 850HP and it was reliable too. Brabham BT52 F1 Engine: BMW M12 1.5L Power: 1500HP Weight: 540kg I spotted this amazing machine during the Historic Grand Prix 2017 at Circuit Zandvoort. Sadly some minutes before the F1 legend appeared it had rained very hard, so the track was still wet. Shortly before the end of the demo the exhaust was finally hot enough to spit some flames. The original Press Brabham BT62 (which was wrapped in multiple colours during it's travels) has been sold to an Australian client recently, making this car the First Customer car.
