The crash was believed to be caused by an aerodynamic design flaw resulting in the front of the car rising up and then flipping without any external contact; Mark Webber had already suffered near identical crashes in the No. 4 car during the Thursday night practice and the Saturday morning Warm-up. The remaining No. 6 car was retired immediately, and the team withdrew from all other planned entries in endurance racing and the American Le Mans Series. Mercedes' most recent appearance in the Le Mans 24 Hours will forever be famous for the sight of its cars taking to the air. 20 years on from the 1999 event, which Mercedes eventually withdrew from following its third airborne accident of the week, Chain Bear explains in great detail the factors behind the design of the spectacular-looking CLR that were ultimately the three-pointed star's downfall

There were 15 full-factory cars bidding for Le Mans victory in 1999, more if you include a pair of Panoz. It was only fitting that this field should create one of the great races of all time on the Circuit de la Sarthe. The race quickly came down to a straight fight between BMW and Toyota. Actually, it was two races: the first was fought out by the quickest of the cars from each manufacturer; and the second, in the closing stages, between the slowest. During Thursday's qualifying session, Mark Webber's #4 Mercedes-Benz CLR went off in a big way and flipped at high speed at the fast approach towards Indianapolis and the driver was taken away by ambulance. But later on he was fine to carry on with his weekend at Le Mans. Well the good news is that the #4 Mercedes has been rebuilt over night, so has Mark Webber and they were reunited in time for the morning warm up. Now the bad news...the #4 Mercedes is back on its roof ! Yes,it is true believe it or not.It looks as if precisely the same thing happened as last time, same car. same driver, and much the same circumstances. Mark Webber must have wished he stayed in bed this morning or maybe let Jean-Mar Gounon or Marcel Tiemann take the car out. Mercedes will have a spot of bother convincing us media lot that the car didnt wind up on its roof this time! This was on Webbers out lap. We wonder what the team are thinking at the moment but both other cars are still out there and the other team drivers must be just a mite apprehensive dont you think ? Not wishing to be too tabloid about this bit of local difficulty but Mercedes did have another spot of bother here in 1955. So is it just the #4 car that is spooked or quite incredibly unlucky? Eventually at 11.30am on race-day, Mark Webber went home - he's had enough. Webber went airborne again with the car this time flipping end over end after cresting the Mulsanne 'bosse' (again the wake of other cars), landed on its roof, and slid all the way to the Mulsanne corner escape road. Again the 21-year old driver escaped with bruising from his harness.

Mercedes killed GT1, so turned their attention to a new category the ACO allowed for Le Mans in 1999 called GTLMP, which was basically for modified GT1s to do their thing at Le Mans. So Mercedes turnedd up and in a bizarre string of accidents started taking off at the humps on the Circuit De La Sarthe that resulted in one car ending up on the other side of the barrier and in the trees. So what happened? Let's find out. Enjoy! And remember to like and subscribe for more! Context A spectator has been killed after an incident in which the Nissan GT3 sportscar driven by Britain’s Jann Mardenborough left the track during a race at the Nürburgring on Saturday. Several other spectators were injured and have been hospitalised. Mardenborough was competing in the VLN endurance race on the classic Nordschleife circuit at the Nürburgring in a Nissan GT3 Nismo, which came off the track and landed in the crowd. The race was stopped and not restarted, and there is no indication as yet as to what caused the accident. #carcrash #gtr #nissan #nurburgring
Born as an evolution of the 1997 Mercedes CLK GTR, the CLK-LM was unveiled during the 1998 24h of Le Mans, when already two rounds of the 1998 FIA GT Championship were won by the V12-powered CLK GTR. The LM was powered by a 5.0-litre NA V8 engine which was not only a lot lighter than the previous V12 but also more reliable since it was based on the 1989 Le Mans-winning engine. The body was revised to be more suitable for the high-speed track (nose and roof were both lowered, reducing the drag considerably). The new car showed its performance in qualifying but during the race some problems forced to retire both cars. Mercedes continued to use the CLK-LM in the 8 following FIA GT rounds winning all of them. Enjoy watching this car driving on the Goodwood hillclimb course during the 2018 Festival of Speed! #CLKLM #MercedesCLKGTR #MercedesCLKLM I have to thank my friends and youtubers Italiansupercarvideo (🤍 and NM2255 (🤍 for the great collaboration done during the event. Whenever group C sports car racing is talked about, the image is that of insanity, distilled down and blown up in hundreds of cylinders across dozens of cars as they fought for some of the greatest accolades in motorsport. And while group C may not have always been quite so ridiculous, our subject today certainly was. So fast was this machine, that the most famous motor racing track in the world was changed to ensure it could never happen again. This is the story of the Sauber-Mercedes C9.
