I wanted to streamline my portable operations so decided on a multi-band mobile whip. This is a review showing assembly and on air reports against a half wave dipole on 40m. I've since tried it on 80m and 20m using half wave dipoles, where reports are very similar to 40m at approx. 3 'S' points difference. Based on previous experience with an Ampro whip. I suspect the 7 inch magmount with this antenna would probably be ok up to 60mph but for worry free mobile use I would recommend a triple magmount. There are quite a few variants of this design of whip. I like this one with stainless solid whip. I've seen a couple that use telescopic whips similar to a car radio aerial. Easy for backpack type usage but I suspect not as durable as the solid whip. These are purely my personal thoughts on the whips.

A look at a hand-carried antenna for pedestrian mobile operation between 7 and 28 MHz. It is similar to the commercially-available 'Miracle Whip'. Efficiency is low but solid interstate SSB contacts (up to about 1000km) can still be made on 7 MHz. Efficiency is better on 14 MHz with the best DX to date being Antarctica. A beachside location is an advantage. In this Video I show how to make an antenna stake that will be fast and strong for portable Ham Radio work. Things did not work as expected with this great design by VA3TNE on Thingiverse. The coil is used with an AT-271 military antenna whip, 3D printed and tested here with my TRC-372 manpack radio at the Col de Vence North of Nice.
