Kanu notched a goal and an assist as Arsenal drew 2-2 with Bayern Munich Arsenal 2 - 2 Bayern Munich (December 2000) rsenal let slip a two-goal lead against German champions Bayern Munich at Highbury in their second group stage Champions League fixture. Manager Arsene Wenger's home side provided most of the attacking threat and took the lead through Thierry Henry in the first-half. Nwankwo Kanu increased Arsenal's advantage early in the second-half but a lack of concentration allowed Bayern a vital and immdiate equaliser through Michael Tarnat. German international Mehmet Scholl completed his side's comeback with a 25-yard free-kick to leave Arsenal bottom of their group before a break in the Champions League schedule. Nwankwo Kanu - Skills, Goals, Passes for the Super Eagles of Nigeria Song: Let's Go - Lensko Nwankwo Kanu, OON (born 1 August 1976), or simply Kanu, is a retired Nigerian footballer who played as a forward. He was a member of the Nigerian national team. Kanu is a native of Abia State, southeast Nigeria,[3] and a member of the Aro sub-group of the Igbo ethnic group.[4] Nwankwo means "Child born on Nkwo market day" in the Igbo language.[5] Kanu played for Nigerian team Iwuanyanwu Nationale, Dutch side Ajax, Inter Milan of Italy, and English clubs Arsenal, West Bromwich Albion and Portsmouth.[6] Kanu won a UEFA Champions League medal, a UEFA Cup medal, three FA Cup Winners Medals and two African Player of the Year awards amongst others. He is one of few players to have won the Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League, UEFA Cup and an Olympic Gold Medal.[7] He made the third-most substitute appearances in Premier League history, appearing from the bench 118 times,[8] and is regarded as one of the best players in African football history.[9] He is also a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador,[10] and African brand ambassador for digital TV operator StarTimes.[11
On the former striker's 44th birthday, we look back at some of the best goals Nwankwo Kanu scored during his time at Pompey. A brace on his debut was a sign of things to come, as the Nigerian proved his excellent finishing ability time after time. Among his finest moments are the 2008 FA Cup Final against Cardiff City at Wembley Stadium and a memorable night at Fratton Park when AC Milan came to town. #Pompey

Kanu won a penalty and was involved in another goal, both scored by Ronaldo who bagged a hat-trick. In 1996 Kanu joined Serie A side Inter Milan for around $4.7 million. That summer he captained the Nigeria national team that won gold at the Olympics, and scored two late goals in the semi-finals against powerhouses Brazil to overturn a 2–3 scoreline into a 4–3 win in extra time.[13] Kanu was also named African Footballer of the Year for that year.[14][15] However, soon after returning from the Olympics, Kanu underwent a medical examination at Inter, which revealed a serious heart defect; he underwent surgery in November 1996 to replace an aortic valve and did not return to his club until April 1997. In interviews, Kanu frequently cites his faith as a Christian,[16] and has often mentioned this trying time of his career as an occasion when he prayed to God. Kanu's experience also led to his founding the Kanu Heart Foundation, an organisation that helps predominantly young African children who suffer heart defects and whose work was expanded to provide aid for homeless children in 2008.[17]

With a goal and an assist, Kanu led Arsenal to a 2-1 victory over Manchester United to win the 1999 Charity Shield. Match report: 🤍 Inspired by the huge, loping but gifted feet of Nwankwo Kanu, Arsenal came from behind to defeat the winners of last season's historic treble without a striker in the strict sense of the word. After one of David Beckham's inspired free-kicks and Dwight Yorke's header had combined to give United the lead, Kanu brought the scores level with a penalty and then set up Ray Parlour for Arsenal's winner. Increasingly Kanu's size 15s dominated Arsenal's movements. Trying to win possession off the Nigerian must be like attempting to take the ball off a circus clown who has it tied to an enormous foot. There were moments yesterday when Kanu successfully defied three or four attempts to dispossess him near the United goal. ieira, bearing down on goal, was pulled down by Denis Irwin and Kanu slipped the coolest of penalties past Bosnich. With no extra time a shoot-out beckoned. In the event it beckoned in vain. Just under a quarter of an hour remained when Vieira headed Bosnich's goal-kick straight back to Kanu, who controlled the ball deftly before sending in Parlour, this time his shot rebounded in off the far post. Arsenal (4-4-2) : Manninger; Dixon, Keown, Grimandi, Winterburn; Parlour (Luzhny 89min), Vieira, Petit, Silvinho (Boa Morte, 61); Ljungberg, Kanu. Manchester United (4-4-2): Bosnich; P Neville, Berg, Stam (May, h-t), Irwin; Beckham, Scholes, Butt (Sherringham 80), Cruyff (Solskjaer 61); Yorke, Cole. Referee G Barber (Tring).

Nwankwo Kanu Hat-trick: Arsenal vs AC Milan (3 September 2016) Like on Facebook : 🤍 Follow me on twitter: 🤍 The Nigerian striker was in impressive form as Arsenal comprehensively beat a Milan side which featured the likes of Christian Vieiri and Cafu. A Nwankwo Kanu hat-trick and goal from Robert Pires gave Arsenal Legends a 4-1 win over Milan Glorie in a charity match at Emirates Stadium. The Gunners attempted to start the match with 12 men when Nigerian striker Kanu didn’t realise he had been named as a substitute, but the 40-year-old made up for his mistake when he scored a header from Emmanuel Petit’s cross on 27 minutes, before Milan’s Christian Vieri equalised with a scrappy effort five minutes before the break. Kanu scored a second on 72 minutes before Pires got in on the act just a day after playing at the Wembley Cup, while Vieri netted a late consolation for Milan when he rebounded in a penalty which was well saved by David Seaman. Highlights included Martin Keown begging Arsene Wenger to bring him on throughout the match and Nigel Winterburn squaring up to Paolo Di Canio in a mock incident of when the Italian confronted a referee against Sheffield Wednesday in September 1998. Nwankwo Kanu Highlights: Werder Bremen 2 - 4 Arsenal (23 March, 2000) Kanu provided 2 assists for Ray Parlour who scored a hat trick on the night. Like on Facebook : 🤍 Like on Facebook : 🤍 Follow me on twitter: 🤍 The Gunners completely outclassed their German opposition in a match they were forced to finish with ten men after the seemingly harsh sending off of Thierry Henry. Match facts 8 mins: Parlour scores his first 25 mins: Parlour scores his second 41 mins: Bode pulls a goal back for Bremen 59 mins: Parlour sets up Henry for Arsenal's third 60 mins: : Bogdanovic makes it 3-2 on the night 63 mins: Henry is dismissed 70 mins: Parlour secures his hat-trick Manager Arsene Wenger was also apparently ordered from the pitch after he protested too vehemently over the sending off. Leading 2-0 from the first leg Arsenal smashed in another four in Germany. Parlour not only scored his first goals of the season and his first hat-trick in an Arsenal shirt, but set up a goal for Henry as he single-handedly snuffed out the German hopes. Werder Bremen had overcome a 3-0 deficit in a duel against Lyon in an earlier round. But any pre-match speculation they may be able to repeat the feat against Arsenal was effectively scotched as early as the eighth minute when Parlour stamped his authority on the game. Cutting inside from the right flank, Parlour appeared to have few options as he looked around for his fellow Gunners. Arsenal were never troubled But the red-headed midfielder took matters into his own hands as he swiped the outside of his right foot at the ball and watched it swerve into the net. Television replays later measured his standing shot at 68 mph and the pace certainly deceived German keeper Rost. Until then the German crowd has sensed an unlikely turnover as first Ailton and then Andreas Herzog from a free-kick threatened Alex Manninger's goal. Indeed things might have been different had the referee not ruled out a 22nd minute equaliser by top-scorer Marco Bode for offside. Instead three minutes later Parlour erased any doubt his early strike may have been a rare fluke when he gave Arsenal a 4-0 aggregate lead. Picking the ball up on the edge of the box, once again with few options, Parlour wriggled through a clutch of Bremen defenders before tickling the ball skillfully inside the left-hand post. Bremen were outclassed in every department The Germans, now needing another five goals to overcome the Gunners, did not lose heart and were rewarded for their spirit four minutes before the interval when Bode pulled one back. But by then any resistance was token. Parlour added to his first-half heroics by setting up a goal for Henry fourteen minutes after the restart. Picking the ball up in acres of space on right, Parlour drove goalwards and then unselfishly cut the ball back for the Frenchman to side-foot home. Arsenal, sensing their semi-final place was secure, relaxed and had themselves to blame as Bremen hit back soon as Bogdanovic arrived late in the box to volley home. Bremen's Ailton was as ineffectual as he was at Highbury Despite conceding two goals, Arsenal appeared to be cruising to the semi-finals until Danish referee Kim Nielsen - famous for sending off England's David Beckham in the World Cup - opted to flash the red card at Henry for a late tackle. But Arsenal simply went on to strip the German weaknesses bare still further. They tore Bremen apart on several occasions until Parlour slid in another goal to record his first hat-trick in a red and white shirt. The remaining 20 minutes were merely academic, although it remains to be seen what punishment awaits Henry and Wenger.
