Police violence is systemically rooted in white supremacy, heteropatriarchy, capitalism, and colonialism. According to Eastern Kentucky University professor Victor E. Kappeler, “New England settlers appointed Indian Constables to police Native Americans (National Constable Association, 1995), the St. Louis police were founded to protect residents from Native Americans in that frontier city, and many southern police departments began as slave patrols. In 1704, the colony of Carolina developed the nation’s first slave patrol. Slave patrols helped to maintain the economic order and to assist the wealthy landowners in recovering and punishing slaves who essentially were considered property.” According to the Center on Juvenile and Criminal Justice “The racial group most likely to be killed by law enforcement is Native Americans, followed by African Americans, Latinos, Whites, and Asian Americans.” This is not to argue Indigenous folks’ oppression is more severe, but to recognize our shared struggles to ensure there is not one more Sarah Lee Circle Bear‬, Corey Kanosh‬, Paul Castaway‬, Allen Locke‬, Mahivist Goodblanket‬, John Williams‬, or Loreal Tsingine (and so many more...) and to situate the ongoing police terrorism all our communities face as originating from the same systems of oppression. Beyond pleas for a system rooted in genocide and slavery to recognize that our lives matter, our communities and movements can learn from each others’ struggles and build together towards lasting solutions to defend ourselves, neighbors, lands, and to resolve issues we face in more just and healthy ways. So yeah, all cops are bastards. #NativeJusticeNow #acab Check out these zines & books: 🤍 🤍 🤍 🤍 🤍

Lyrics Our mother aches Iron claws dig until she breaks And she bleeds for this How much is enough? I remember listening to songs of the sun For all those, who's breath was stolen Who's future was taken away Who learned too late CHORUS: And so we sing again To the house of dawn There are no words, no words that can right these wrongs. This land breathes pain And nothing grows that doesn't carry the trauma that we've wept, that you sow... CHORUS this empire of blood and bones of stolen, poisoned, homes... genocide... mutilated ghosts... fierce hearts lay buried... their struggle speaks... fierce hearts lay buried... saying... "leave it in the ground..." While the mines lay abandoned What has been done? Wells poisoned... nothing has been done? Cancers spread... tell me, what has been done? To right these wrongs! For Diné "Nahiłi" is a term my sister Radmilla Cody has introduced to address anti-Blackness in Diné Bikeyah. Cover of the Tom Waits song "Earth Died Screaming." Climate change is a consequence of the war against Mother Earth. The greenwashing of capitalism and colonialism perpetuates the nightmare of ecocide and genocide of Indigenous Peoples. Lithium mining is intensifying to meet demand of "green" EV cars. This means further targeting and destruction of Indigenous sacred lands and water. Check out 🤍the-ciej.org and support Hualapai & Shoshone (and beyond!) resistance to lithium mining. From mining, transport, milling, and waste, "clean/green" Nuclear energy is a deadly lie. There are more than 10,000 abandoned uranium throughout the so-called US that have been left to permanently contaminate our communities with deadly radioactive pollution. There is also no permanent plan to deal with the highly radioactive waste from nuclear power generation. Yucca Mountain, a sacred site for Western Shoshone, is still being considered for a national nuclear waste repository. Check out 🤍HaulNo.com, 🤍dinenonukes.org, and 🤍cleanupthemines.org. For wind turbines, solar panels, and electric vehicles, Resolution Copper proclaims that they desperately need to mine the copper beneath Oak Flat, a sacred site for San Carlos Apache. Check out 🤍apache-stronghold.com We can't ignore the brutal impacts associated with the sourcing of necessary metals and minerals needed to "sustain" unsustainable ways of life. Check out our new podcast at 🤍indigenousaction.org as well. Green capitalists and colonizers dream, while the Earth dies screaming. 🤍patreon.com/kleebenally IG: 🤍kleebenally 🤍kleebenally.com 🤍appropriationproject.com

Ya'at'eeh,  In honor and support for ongoing resistance to forced relocation on Black Mesa. This is for the original matriarchs who would not be moved such as Katherine Smith, Roberta Blackgoat, Pauline Whitesinger, Mae Tso, Alice Benally, Ruth Benally, and so many more. I highly recommend checking out Malcolm Benally’s book Bitter Water: Diné Oral Histories of the Navajo-Hopi Land Dispute 🤍 You can also watch the documentary Broken Rainbow here: 🤍 "This land is a sacred land. The man's law is not our law. Nature, food and the way we live is our law. The plans to disrupt and dig out sacred sites are against the Creator's law. Our great ancestors are buried all over, they have become sand, they have become the mountains and their spiritual presence is still here to guide us… We resist in order to keep this sacred land in place. We are doing this for our children. ” - Roberta Blackgoat. "We've reached the point where now we have to fight for our land, I will never leave this land. If they come to move me, they can shoot me right here." - Pauline Whitesinger. "It is here that I have made offerings to the Holy beings all my life; it is here that they have blessed me and my family. It is here that my umbilical cord dissolved, as did the umbilical cords of my children and my parents. My family is connected to the land here. Take us away from this, dissolve the connection to this place, and perhaps we will still be awake and walking – but we will be dead.” - Katherine Smith. “I would rather stay here and die than suffer somewhere else.” Mae Tso. #freebigmountain #relocationisgenocide Please like, share, & subscribe for more. I’m uploading a new song every week. Join me at 🤍patreon.com/kleebenally and sign up for bonus content (videos digging into the songwriting process & meaning of the lyrics), sneak previews, and more! Ahe' hee’, Klee she was a mountain it was the words she didn’t say she sang the sun down, everyday into the silence, shouting and when they came to move her she was a mountain It was compromise she wouldn’t make sowing resistance, everyday with every seed planted, they couldn't move her because she was a mountain oh, Katherine get your gun oh, Roberta sing your song oh, Pauline cut the wire oh, Mae start the fire in this earth we are made so we never really go, away its part of us that is buried, so we always return back to our mother earth oh, Katherine get your gun oh, Roberta sing your song oh, Pauline cut the wire oh, Alice will keep the fire and we will keep the fire - end -

Sacred Lands Solidarity Rally and Press Conference at the National Indian Gaming Association (NIGA) conference on March 28, 2013. "What's another developer going to say who is not Native when they look at indigenous people desecrating their own sacred lands," asked Navajo activist Klee Benally of Indigenous Action Media. "NIGA is one of the largest most powerful lobbying entities for indigenous interests, so it's about time that they stand up and they lobby to ensure guaranteed protection for our sacred places," said Benally.

This cover was requested by Yousseph El Boujami (my nephew) on Patreon. I'm doing a series of covers per request for patrons and this is the fifth one. Subhumans inspired my anarcho-punk sensibilities. I had the honor of playing with them on Diné Bikeyah some years ago with my previous group Blackfire. I'll be sharing that story, the mp3s, and more on my patreon ;) Enjoy. 🤍patreon.com/kleebenally IG: 🤍kleebenally 🤍kleebenally.com 🤍appropriationproject.com
