What’s next for the legend of Zelda? It’s hard think that Nintendo could create a game that’s better than Tears of the kingdom, but hey, I thought the same thing with Breath of the Wild! So it’s clear that the Zelda team can make anything possible So, you would think that after tears of the kingdom there’s no way (text) they could do any better, right? what, could they possibly, do next? you see, every Zelda game comes with some new ‘thing’, be it a new world, new powerups or a new method of control, like motion controls. These changes are whats gonna give us the hidden key to finding out whats to come next. The first big change to the Zelda formula was in 1998 when they shook up the series and brought link into an entirely new DIMENSION. The legend of Zelda series had been going for a while at this point and its formula started becoming a bit weak. Each new entry just felt like another adventure where you solve puzzles and defeat the bad guy from top down. Except Zelda 2... we don't talk about that one.... What Nintendo needed was something new, something fresh, something so well made that it would set the stage for the future of gaming. And this came in the form of Ocarina of Time. You could probably go back a couple years and people would’ve thought that Zelda games were fine as they already were. But after ocarina of time, it was clear that Zelda NEEDED to be like this. This game, along with breath of the wild, share the common trait that they make Zelda become more realised, rather than just throwing the franchise into a new genre to follow trends. The Legend of Zelda is one of the most beloved series in all of gaming. Over 30 years, the series has innovated game design, inspired countless other game developers, and changed the landscape of video games for good. To celebrate the launch of the eagerly awaited Tears of the Kingdom, let’s take a look at the history of The Legend of Zelda. In the mid-1980s, Shigeru Miyamoto was working on Super Mario Bros for the Famicom, but began noodling around with an idea for a different game. Miyamoto was inspired by his youth exploring the Japanese countryside, and wanted to move away from the linearity of Mario to give players an adventure where they had to carefully consider their next moves. The team worked up a classic damsel-in-distress tale whereby the hero, Link, would rescue Princess Zelda from the evil Ganon’s lair on Death Mountain. It was a simple premise, but Miyamoto, along with Takashi Tezuka, went on to build something on top of it that would change the kinds of games Nintendo made. The Legend of Zelda remains as one of the most influential games of all time, and was the springboard for a franchise that would define Nintendo. In this episode of History Of, we examine the impact the series has had on gaming since its inception in 1986. While The Legend of Zelda has always been one of Nintendo's top franchises, after The Wind Waker released to GameCube, there were major questions for Nintendo if Zelda would continue to sell. Love it or hate it, Here is how Twilight Princess SAVED the Zelda Franchise. #zelda #twilightprincess #windwaker The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is somewhat controversial in the Zelda fanbase. But, Zelda was starting to struggle before its release. Nintendo was extremely disappointed with how well Zelda sold in both Japan and the West, and after Twilight Princess, the team tried Four Swords Adventure deciding innovations was what gamers were looking for. Unfortunately, it was another massive misstep and failure for Nintendo and Zelda. So, Eiji Aonuma had a bitter pill to swallow. While he hated the realistic Zelda presentation Nintendo had shown to promote the GameCube, Western reactions had been positive to it. So, he presented a realistic Zelda to Shigeru Miyamoto, and the team went forwards with a more realistic Zelda - hoping this project would succeed. Nintendo doesn't always have the time/money/resources to spend on long development cycles, as revealed by Satoru Iwata, so, hopefully Twilight Princess would succeed. Dave Klein breaks down this story with the help of Manley Reviews. See what's next on Maker.TV ► 🤍 Jimmy Whetzel's got the origin story of The Legend of Zelda! 🤍 Written by Phil: 🤍 Voiced by Jimmy Whetzel: 🤍 🤍 Animated by Edgar Nielsen: 🤍 🤍 Transcript: 1985 saw the world completely enthralled in Nintendo's groundbreaking Super Mario Brothers, but its designer, Shigeru Miyamoto, was already hard at work on what would become his next masterpiece: The Legend of Zelda. Inspired by his childhood experiences of exploring forests and caves, Miyamoto teamed up with Takashi Tezuka to create a game that would impart a sense of freedom and wonder to the player - the complete opposite of Super Mario which relied heavily on high scores and arcade-style gameplay. So along with an expansive overworld and cryptic dungeons, Miyamoto made Zelda a non-linear game that lacked clear instruction, forcing confused and frustrated gamers to communicate in order to solve puzzles, defeat bosses, and uncover every heart container - a scheme that added to the mystique of Link's adventure Yet, with all its innovations, the Legend of Zelda still had one last revolutionary feature packed into the cartridge: game saving. Zelda was the first home-console game to have a battery-powered backup to record progress which encouraged gamers to play beyond failure or death - it was a proper 'adventure' in every sense of the word, and one that you could return to at any time at that. Glazed in gold, The Legend of Zelda sold 6.5 million units and was an instant hit. But beyond sales and critical acclaim, Miyamoto and his team single-handedly defined the action-adventure genre and ushered in what many consider the modern era of gaming. The rest is history. It is primarily developed and published by Nintendo, although some portable installments and re-releases have been outsourced to Capcom, Vanpool, and Grezzo. The gameplay incorporates action-adventure and elements of action RPG games. The series centers on the various incarnations of Link, a courageous young Hylian man, with pointy, elf-like ears; and Princess Zelda, a magical princess that is the mortal reincarnation of the goddess Hylia; as they fight to save the magical land of Hyrule from Ganon, an evil warlord turned demon king, who is the principal antagonist of the series. Ganon wishes to use the Triforce, a sacred relic left behind by the three goddesses that created Hyrule, to remake the world in his own dark image. When gathered together, the power of the Triforce can grant any wish its user desires; however, if someone with a heart that does not possess a balance of the three virtues of Power, Courage, and Wisdom attempts to touch the Triforce, it will split into three triangles and bond with three people whose hearts embody the required virtue. Now that Tears of The Kingdom has been out for a few months, I want to tackle the Tears of the kingdom timeline. But in doing that I stumbled upon something much bigger. I discovered how nintendo is rebooting Zelda for good, and now I’m confident in predicting the next zelda game! That’s right, I know what the next zelda game after tears of the kingdom will be, and it starts with having the tears of the kingdom storyline explained for you. I’ve figured out, not only what the next zelda game will be, but also how Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom fit in with the grander Zelda timeline, AND Nintendo’s new meta-philosophy regarding the series that they’re purposely keeping hush-hush in order to stoke conversation online. I’ve got all that and more coming at ya, so grab yourself a noble pursuit to sip on, sit back, and let me explain how nintendo is rebooting zelda (for good!).
