In this video I talk about my Family Tree DNA results. I took my test back in 2013, so my FTDNA results aren't a surprise to me but I thought it would be interesting to look at them from a genealogical standpoint. DNA result videos are on of the most popular videos to do currently. I took three tests in my FTDNA kit - Y-67, mt-DNA, and Family Finder (autosomal). In the video I review the breakdown of my genetic admixture, which comes from the autosomal test, and how it compares to my family history research. FTDNA breaks down the admixture through percentages and visually through a World map. I also talk a little bit about autosomal matches and different parts of the matches page, such as the most common surnames of matches. Matches are broken down by relationship range, shared Centimorgans (cM), longest block, and x-match. The match list also allows the user to link matches into the tree if a relation is known through the paper-trail as well as a list of ancestral names. Once known relations are linked in your tree on FTDNA they can start to infer whether matches are related through your maternal or paternal side. The matches are the most useful part in terms of genealogy for the autosomal test.
