The opportunity to meet Gordon Murray in the warehouses where the new T50 is being built, before the official presentation, when its aesthetics had not yet been revealed, but only its technical data sheet and chassis, is not exactly an everyday occurrence. The reason I would have this privilege was the ambitious production of a documentary on composite materials (Lords of Carbon), in which all the relevant number ones were involved. Thanks to my dear friend Umberto Belotti and his Company, the impetus came to Gordon Murray to say yes to this young Italian who had been wanting to interview him for years, and not only about his role in the composites history. All good, except that THE DAY BEFORE we flew to England the world came to a standstill over a little thing called COVID19. So the interview you will see was done remotely. A small, indelible stain in the history of Drive Experience that we will never forget. The interview is the one I would have loved to do in person, including the final cherry on top. I can only hope to meet him in the future, perhaps with the excuse of driving the T50... #GordonMurray #McLaren #F1 SHOP: 🤍

How did Gordon Murray get his tenacious hunger of design and problem solving? How did he come to design the legendary McLaren F1? What does his new car, the T.50, do that other supercars don't? And what are those strange contraptions he built out of a boiler and a food truck? All that and a lot more will be answered in this amazing episode. If there were a hall of fame for cars, Gordon Murray would be near the top, seated at the table of bosses next to people like Colin Chapman and Dan Gurney. He was the lead designer and engineer behind the McLaren F1, which came after he had a very successful career as a technical director in F1 for Brabham and McLaren. For some, those credits would be enough to hang their legacy on but as you'll soon hear Gordon is not like other people. His new venture, GMA (Gordon Murray Automotive), has debuted two cars that lit the supercar world on fire because their intent is not to deliver the quickest, fastest, or most powerful ride on Earth, but the best to drive. Gordon's focus has always been about weight reduction and driver feedback, and as will become clear in this show, his focus is sharper than ever. 🤍 Recorded August 4, 2022 Berryman is Available at your favorite automotive retailer or automotive parts store. 🤍. There are very few car designers inspire the kind of adulation that Gordon Murray has managed to accrue over the years. There are even fewer who have managed to do so in the different worlds of road cars and motorsport. While Murray may have begun designing racing cars, including ones he raced himself, his latter career has been dedicated to the improvement of the road car. He has constantly chased his philosophy, dedicated to simplicity, and that task has brought some of the finest cars we've ever seen. From the mighty McLaren F1 to the Brabham BT46B, from the McLaren Mp4/4 to the GMA T.50 there have been some incredible cars from his pen. #gwoverdrive #GordonMurray #McLarenF1 Timestamps: 00:00 Intro 00:56 Brabham BT46B 02:08 Brabham BT49 03:21 Brabham BT52 04:50 Brabham BT55 05:32 McLaren MP4/4 06:19 McLaren F1 07:31 McLaren F1 GTR 08:35 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 09:38 LCC Rocket 10:49 GMA T.50 Official Website 👉 🤍 Facebook 👉 🤍 Instagram 👉 🤍 Twitter 👉 🤍 SUBSCRIBE for more racing cars, supercars, new car reviews, historic motorsport and Goodwood event coverage 👉 🤍 Buy your Goodwood Event tickets 👉 🤍

It shares the high-revving Cosworth tuned V12 and similar guiding principles with the T.50. Which got us wondering: What makes it special? So we paid Gordon a visit to find out. If you're unfamiliar with Professor Gordon Murray CBE, he's the brain behind the iconic McLaren F1 supercar as well as a series of successful Brabham F1 cars. His most controversial innovation was the Brabham "Fan car" that used ground effect aerodynamics and some clever interpretation of the regulations to dominate other F1 cars. This is one of the few mechanical engineers that puts driver engagement at the forefront of design so, naturally, the T.33 has a manual transmission option which is music to Henry Catchpole's ears. Powered by a bespoke N/A Cosworth V12 that revs to 11,100rpm and produces 615ps at 10,250rpm, the 1090kg T.33 has the makings of being one of the purest supercars of all time. This year's edition of the Goodwood Festival of Speed was particularly interesting due to the presence of many of the crazy street-legal supercars/hypercar unveiled in recent years. One of these is for sure the Gordon Murray Automotive T.50. The car has been engineered to be the purest, lightest, most driver-centric supercar ever and it has been created by ex-Formula 1 designer and engineer Gordon Murray, the man who also designed the McLaren F1. With the T.50, Murray celebrates his 50th anniversary of engineering and design. Designing this car, Gordon Murray aimed to improve his acclaimed McLaren F1 in every conceivable way while maintaining many of the details and features of that iconic supercar. So as the F1, the T.50 has a naturally aspirated V12 engine this time developed by Cosworth (a 3,994 cc V12 called Cosworth GMA) which is able to produce 663 bhp at 11,500 rpm. It's linked to a 6-speed H-pattern manual gearbox. Redline is set at 12,100 rpm. The total weight of the T.50 in running order is just 986 kg. In common with the McLaren F1 is the central driving position, flanked by two passenger seats, reached through gullwing-opening doors. The thing that most catches the eye is certainly the huge fan positioned at the rear and which of course references to the famous Murray-designed Brabham BT46B "Fan Car" Formula 1 car of the 1970s. Though the basic concepts are similar, the T.50's fan shares little with the BT46B one: electronically controlled and able to spin to 7000 rpm, it can increase downforce by 50 percent in its most aggressive setting, sucking air through ducts in the underfloor diffuser. This function is actually closer to what can be found on the McLaren F1. In fact that supercar had two small fans that acted on a small area of its rear diffuser. The T.50 essentially takes that concept and supersizes it. The fan can also be used to create a fill of air in the trailing wake, generating a sort of virtual long tail, reducing drag by 12.5 percent and increasing lift, which results in better efficiency and a higher top speed. All of this is done without a traditional wing or splitter. Limited to just 100 cars, it features a naturally aspirated V12 and manual gearbox, with a very small footprint. Let's check it out! Set to be built after the GMA T.50 and T.50s Niki Lauda, the new T.33 returns to a more regular 2 seat cabin, but certainly sets the target of being the ultimate road supercar. The GMA-Cosworth 4.0l V12 produces 615hp while lightweight materials and tight packaging result in a car weighing only 1,100kg. The T.33 is physically sized equivalently to a Lotus Emira or Porsche Cayman, yet packs in both the V12 and 280 litres of luggage space. The argument behind F1’s most dominant car: Origin story of the MP4/4

12.10.2018

With 15 wins from 16 grands prix, 15 poles, 10 fastest laps and 1003 laps led from a total of 1031 in 1988, it is also one of the most dominant cars in F1's history. Its success arguably re-wrote the definition of dominance in F1 and took Ayrton Senna to the first of his three world titles, while the car also won Autosport's 'World Cup' style poll to discover the most popular F1 car of all time last year. But the MP4/4's legacy is disputed. This is primarily due to a disagreement between F1 design legend Gordon Murray and Steve Nichols, respectively technical director and chief designer at McLaren in the late 1980s, over which of them came up with the main concepts that made the car so successful. In this exclusive 3D animation video, released first to Autosport Plus subscribers, the MP4/4's technical elements and design philosophies are explained in detail, as is the dispute between Murray and Nichols.

Despite the different design philosophies behind the two cars, the Gordon Murray T.50 and the Aston Martin Valkyrie are always going to draw comparisons. Both house Cosworth V12s behind their driver cell. Both will cost well into the millions of pounds. And both are... well, really rather special. So here's Chris Harris talking Top Gear Magazine's Jack Rix through his opinions on both machines. The GMA T.50 Fancar is probably the most pure performance car on sale right now. So of course it was the only choice when it came to choosing a car to lead around our awesome V10-era F1 demo at the 79th Goodwood Members' Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport. Driving just in front of Bruno Senna in his uncle's McLaren MP4/5, the GMA T.50 Fancar's Cosworth V12 engine screamed beautifully as it led the field on a stunning day at Goodwood. #79MM #GMAT50 #F1 Official Website 👉 🤍 Facebook 👉 🤍 Instagram 👉 🤍 Twitter 👉 🤍 SUBSCRIBE for more racing cars, supercars, new car reviews, historic motorsport and Goodwood event coverage 👉 🤍 Buy your Goodwood Event tickets 👉 🤍

Gordon Murray chatted with Henry Catchpole recently about the T.33, but there was so much extra stuff in that interview we thought we'd put together a bonus episode for you. Gordon tells us about his custom watch made in collaboration with Tag Heuer for the McLaren F1, the new GMA facility and more! Watch the first interview about the T.33 here: 🤍 Following the hotly anticipated T.50, The GMA T.33 is Gordon Murray's next brainchild to take on the mid-engined supercar market. Is Gordon Murray's T.50 Supercar The Best Driver's Car Ever? The 1,000 HP Naturally Aspirated V12 - 🤍 Subscribe for new videos every Wednesday! - 🤍 Gordon Murray wanted to build the best drivers car, period. The formula is pretty simple: lightweight, central driving position, naturally aspirated V12, manual transmission, and rear wheel drive. The formula sounds great, but it’s actually a rather difficult thing to market. What are you going to brag about? The V12 is small, and not all that powerful. The manual transmission shifts seem pathetically slow in comparison to today’s stupid fast dual clutch transmissions. People don’t care nearly enough about weight, but they do care about horsepower, and 654 horsepower can be found in family sedans these days. When other companies are making new supercars, they’re picking what they want it to be good at. Best track car, quickest acceleration, highest top speed. But these accolades only last for so long, and they don’t even mean that the car is fun to drive. But they’re bragging rights. When it comes to buying supercars, there’s a lot of ego involved. Marketing teams obviously know this, so cars are flashy, exotic, and break records to make talking points. And while I certainly admire the engineering that goes into it, many of these exotics aren’t all that special to drive. Here’s an example with two cars. For about $36,000, you can buy a base Mustang GT with 460 horsepower, or a Club ND Miata and Brembo package with 181 horsepower. The nearly 300 horsepower bump is all most people need to hear, and the Mustang routinely outsells the Miata on a monthly basis, by as much as 10 times the quantity. The fact that the MX-5 weighs 1400 lbs less, an absurd amount, just doesn’t seem to be an effective talking point. Very few people care. So why is this T.50 good? Simply put, because it’s fun. I’ve had the privilege to be able to drive hundreds of different cars, and from my experience, the amount of money you spend on a car doesn’t determine how much fun you’ll have driving it. And while the T.50 is silly expensive, it says forget the records, we’re building something rewarding to drive. It’s not about ego, it’s about having fun, and that’s the edge it has over all of the other supercars today. From The Gordon Murray Automotive Media Kit: "The T.50 has been engineered to be the purest, lightest, most driver-centric supercar ever. Improving on his acclaimed McLaren F1 “in every conceivable way”, Professor Gordon Murray CBE is leading the team that will begin building customer versions of the 986kg supercar in January 2022. Justifying its £2.36m (before taxes) price tag, the T.50 promises to deliver an unsurpassed driving experience. It is powered by a 100% bespoke 3.9-litre, 663PS V12 engine that revs to a record-breaking 12,100rpm, and features the most advanced and effective aerodynamics ever seen on a road car – aided by a 400mm rear-mounted fan. The global premiere is the first time the clean lines of the exterior and the driver-focused interior have been seen. From his first ballpoint sketches, to every engineering and design detail, Murray has led the Gordon Murray Automotive team and briefed and overseen suppliers to drive the project forward at an unrelenting pace. Murray’s design for T.50 was the 50th in a prestigious line of race and road cars he’s penned over his illustrious 50-year career – both reasons combining to name the car T.50. The most dominant characteristics of the T.50 exterior design are its purity and balance, free from the wings, skirts and vents that adorn most modern-day supercars. The clean surfaces are enabled by the most advanced and effective aerodynamics ever seen on a road car, resulting in deliberately simple, beautiful lines and a timeless appearance."
