For the first time in 13 years,... Sunday night, a group of South Korean musicians put on a concert in Pyongyang,... dazzling an audience that included North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. Kim was accompanied by a few well-known faces: his wife Ri Sol-ju,... his sister Kim Yo-jong, who visited South Korea in February for the Winter Olympics,... and Hyon Song-wol who led the North Korean delegation in talks to set up the show. It started at around 6:20 PM, North Korea time that's 6:50 PM in the South and lasted for over 2 hours. It was called "Spring is Coming," and featured eleven South Korean artists... including Cho Yong-pil, Lee Sun-hee, the idol group Red Velvet,... and Seo Hyun of Girls' Generation. "I hope this concert gives us a chance to truly feel that we are one." The South Koreans sang to a full house 15-hundred seats songs representing the fact of the two Koreas' division. They ended with two numbers called "Our Hope is Reunification" and "Until We Meet Again." "When we South Korean artists all sang together, the North Koreans sang along with us. That made me feel that we are one people. It was touching, and that's why I teared up." As he watched,... Kim Jong-un reportedly said... there should be more cultural and art performances put on by Seoul and Pyongyang. He also suggested holding another concert in the autumn this time in Seoul which would signify that the two Koreas are seeing "fruitful results" from their diplomatic push. Kim's attendance was a surprise to many, but there were clues that it might happen' the start time was changed twice on the day of the concert. His original plan, reportedly, was to attend on Tuesday... a joint performance by both South and North Korean artists but he had schedule conflicts. But his sudden appearance, which naturally came with strict security,... prevented most of the South Korean journalists from covering the concert. Kim entered the concert hall when he South Korean press were outside,... and without notifying the reporters, the performance began right away. Only one cameraman stayed inside throughout the performance... while the rest had to watch it on a television in a nearby room. Afterwards, the North Korean side apologized,... explaining that their exclusion wasn't intentional but the result of a lack of communication. Ri Sol-ju was seen in photos released on Wednesday accompanying Kim on his "field guidance" trip to the Mount Kumgang resort on the country's scenic east coast. It was her first reported public activity since June, though her name was not mentioned among those who followed Kim on his trip to the mountain. She was last seen in public when Chinese President Xi Jinping made his first visit to Pyongyang on June 20 and 21. After that, she disappeared from state media reports for more than 120 days, with Kim making public appearances without her. Ri’s relatively long disappearance from state media reports was considered unusual. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has returned home from a trip to Russia where he deepened “comradely fellowship and friendly ties” with President Vladimir Putin, state media reported. Ri Sol Ju, the wife of Kim Jong Un, has reappeared in North Korea's state media for the first time in just over year. Early Wednesday, the North's Korean Central Central News Agency (KCNA) released a series of nine photos showing Ri sitting next to Kim at a performance on Tuesday to mark the birth anniversary of former leader Kim Jong Il. The last time Ri Sol Ju was shown by North Korean state media was on 26 January 2020, attending another performance with Kim the previous day, marking the Lunar New Year. It's common for North Korean state media to release photos of videos the day after an event. Ri Sol Ju attracted international attention when she first appeared in 2012, because North Korea's previous leader Kim Jong Il had normally not appeared with his wife or partner in state media available to a foreign audience. Ri's initial appearance was also a surprise not only to foreigners but also Koreans because state media at first did not mention exactly what her relationship with Kim was. Over the years, Ri became a regular fixture in North Korean news images, including travelling with Kim to visit China and its leader. There has been no explanation for her absence from the spotlight over the past year. Also Wednesday, KCNA released one image of Kim Jong Un visiting the mausoleum where North Korea's former leaders lie in state. North Korea normally shows Kim's visits to the mausoleum early on the same day. This time was a bit later than usual. Last year, after there was no report about a Kim mausoleum visit on a usual date in April, foreign media speculated intensely for weeks about Kim's health, before he appeared again at a factory opening at the beginning of May. The 15-hundred seat hall was completely full as the South Korean singers sang songs that represent the divided status of the two Koreas... and they ended the concert with songs titled 'Our Hope is Reunification' and 'Until We Meet Again.' Kim Jong-un's attendance was somewhat expected,... as the concert's start time was changed a couple of times on the day. He's known to have originally planned to watch Tuesday's concert a joint one by South and North Korean artists but had schedule problems. South Korea's taekwondo demonstration team performed earlier on Sunday. Around 23-hundred North Korean citizens also watched the performance. "We welcome South Korea's taekwondo demonstration team to Pyongyang " The 50-minute show featured smashing performances as well as dances that use taekwondo moves. The Pyongyang citizens in attendance clapped and enjoyed the performance,... but showed no response when the South Korean team danced to the recent South Korean pop song 'Fire' by boy band BTS. On Monday, South Korean Taekwondo demonstration team will hold another performance this time, together with the North Korean team. North Korea's leader took his daughter to a meeting with missile scientists in her second public appearance, in which state media called her Kim Jong Un's "most beloved" child, deepening outside debate over whether she is being primed as his successor. The daughter, believed to Kim's second child named Ju Ae and about 9 or 10 years old, was first unveiled to the outside world last weekend in state media photos showing her observing the North's intercontinental ballistic missile launch the previous day with her parents and other older officials. On Sunday, the North's state media mentioned her for the second time, saying she and Kim took group photos with scientists, technicians, officials and other workers involved in what it called the test-launch of its Hwasong-17 ICBM. KCNA described her as Kim's "most beloved" or "precious" child, a more honorific title than her previous description of "(Kim's) beloved" child on its November 19 dispatch. It also released a slew of photos showing the daughter in a long, black coat with a black fur collar, holding her father's arm. One photo showed the two of them standing in the middle of a line of uniformed soldiers before a massive missile atop a launch truck. Others showed Kim's daughter clapping her hands or talking to her father as people cheered in the background. Taking after her mother Ri Sol Ju, who wasn't visible in any of the photos on Sunday, she had a more mature appearance than in pictures a week ago. South Korean media previously speculated Kim has three children — born in 2010, 2013 and 2017 — and that the first child is a son while the youngest is a daughter. The luxury armored train carrying North Korean leader Kim Jong Un crossed into Russia ahead of his summit with President Vladimir Putin that the US said would focus on supplying weapons for Moscow’s war on Ukraine. Kim’s train was spotted Tuesday in Ussuriysk, north of Vladivostok, Interfax reported, where it will get a new locomotive and then continue traveling on the Trans Siberian railway to Khabarovsk or possibly Komsomolsk-on-Amur. State media in North Korea and Russia said the two leaders would meet but no official schedule has been released on the itinerary of the secretive North Korean leader. Kim could visit far eastern cities where Russia’s fighter jets are produced and a spaceport is located, Yonhap News Agency of South Korea reported. The summit between the two leaders who have faced international isolation and sanctions marks the first time Kim has left the Korean Peninsula since 2019, when he held his only other summit with Putin — in Vladivostok. The meeting offers a chance for Putin to obtain weapons to fuel his war of attrition in Ukraine and Kim a chance to win assistance for his beleaguered economy as well as expand his ability to deliver a nuclear strike.
