The Miura is the ultimate Delegation Special — it exists only because Ferruccio Lamborghini backed off and allowed his team of young, talented engineers and designers to do what they do best. A finicky mid-engined supercar is the opposite of the Rolls-Royce-like GTs that Ferruccio wanted to build, yet it's the Miura that singlehandedly elevated Lamborghini to the likes of Ferrari. The four men chiefly behind the car were all in their twenties when the Miura debuted: Giampaolo Dallara, 29, senior engineer Paolo Stanzani, 29, assistant engineer Bob Wallace, 27, chief development engineer Marcello Gandini, 27, designer The Miura used the 4-liter Bizzarrini V-12 designed for the 350GT and 400GT, rotated by 90º and mounted transversely in a casting that included the transmission and differential. Power claims were all over the map, but Road & Track's test car banged off a 0-60 in 5.5 seconds, through the quarter-mile in 13.9 sec 🤍 107.5 mph, and achieved a top speed of 168 mph, making it the fastest car in the world, at the time. This stunning Lamborghini Miura finished in Blue Speciale was lovingly restored by Iain and his team 4 years ago. It has returned for a service but has a running fault that Iain suspects may be as simple as stale fuel after low recent usage. After some detective work, Iain identifies the real culprit, whose technology can be traced back to a 17th century invention for windmills that would then form an integral part of steam engines! This stunning gold Lamborghini Miura S has undergone a complete ground-up rotisserie restoration under the care and attention of Iain and his team. Having featured in previous workshop catch-ups, including details of the reworking of the front-end to match the original factory spec, the car is now looking the part, and that means it's time to start slowly bringing the car to life through careful road-testing, a process that can often be a significant chunk of the total restoration time. Ride along with Iain as his years of experience working with Miuras allows him to pin-point the issues that require further attention back at the workshop. All being well, Iain can hopefully start to open her up and allow that glorious V12 to sing once again!
